products:
GAFONE™ 3000 (membrane grade) has been introduced as a high purity, high molecular weight Polyethersulfone (PES) resin in powder form, specially developed for membrane manufacturers. PES membranes offer excellent resistance to steam sterilization, strong membrane (high tear strength), good membrane pore size control and chemical resistance.
The availability of GAFONE™ 3000 in powder form enables faster dissolution in solvents during membrane manufacture. Recommended solvents are N-methyl Pyrrolidone (NMP), Dimethyl formamide (DMF), Dimethyl acetamide (DMAC) or combinations of the above three.
In a typical membrane manufacturing process, PES resin is dissolved in a suitable solvent. Polyvinylpyrrolidone and other salts are added for pore size control and increased hydrophilicity. This solution is cast in the form of a thin film. On contact of the top layer with air, solvent evaporates to form a hard layer. Beneath, solvent remains entrapped which is removed by leaching in a suitable non-solvent to obtain a PES membrane suitable for Kidney Dialysis.
The single largest market for PES membranes is in oxygen enrichment and kidney dialysis membranes. Some leading companies, which supply Renal Dialysis membranes include Fresenius Medical Care, Akzo Nobel and Gambro while Millipore, Meissner, Gelmann Labs, etc supply ultra-filtration membranes.
company profile:
Gharda Polymer division was established in the mid nineties with an objective of leveraging Gharda Chemical's core competency of R&D to develop and commercialize novel specialty plastics, their compounds and their monomers.
We focus our research to design polymers that are resistant to very high temperatures, corrosive atmospheres and that show excellent mechanical and electrical properties.
In 1996, Gharda began construction of India's first Specialty thermoplastic manufacturing facility at a greenfield site at Panoli, 350 km north of Mumbai in the State of Gujarat. This state-of-the-art, fully automated plant was completed and commissioned in early 1997 for production of Gharda's wide range of Polyether Sulfone (GAFONE™ PES) resins, their compounds and their monomers.
