Conferences and meetings
August 10-13, 2008 - IWA North American Membrane Research Conference
The scarcity of clean water represents a global threat to society, equal to or greater than that of oil resources. A range of factors are responsible for this shortage, including population growth in arid regions, and contamination of surface and groundwater supplies. Membrane technologies can be used to provide both short and long term solutions to these problems by providing clean water from low quality sources.
This conference will showcase advances in membrane technologies for water and wastewater treatment as well as novel membrane materials and processes. The conference will be in the style of the Gordon Research Conference; all sessions will be plenary sessions with time for questions and discussion. Opportunities will be provided for networking and group recreational activities, such as hiking and sports.

IWA International Water Association - www.iwahq.org
IWA has its roots in two strong associations: the International Water Supply Association (IWSA) and the International Water Quality Association (IAWQ). IWSA was established in 1947 while IAWQ was originally formed as the International Association for Water Pollution Research in 1965. IWSA and IAWQ came together in a merger in 1999 to form IWA.
Today, IWA is a member driven organization. There are three member types within the Association: Individual, Corporate and Governing Members. In aggregate our members involve and represent approximately 10,000 individuals worldwide. The Association is a non-profit organization, self-governing and responsible to its Governing Members. A Governing Assembly, Board of Directors, a Strategic Council and various committees guide and direct the Association.

May 15-18, 2008 - CCS International Conference 2008, Xi’an - Advances in Chemical Technologies for Water and Wastewater Treatment
Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT), Xi’an, China
Objectives of the Conferencce
An International Conference on Advances in Chemical Technologies for Water and Wastewater Treatment will be organized by Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) under the co-organization of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT). The event will be held in Xi'an , the historical city of China , from 15th to 18th May, 2008.
CCS, founded in 1932, is among the most influential academic organizations in China . Chemists of various disciplines all over the country are associated under the umbrella of CCS in a variety of branches and groups, of which the Group of Chemists for Water and Wastewater Treatment (GCWWT) has been active for long both domestically and internationally. The biennial conference on chemical technologies for water and wastewater treatment started in 1990 is the most important event of GCWWT to bring scientists, engineers together for exchanging the latest information on the progress in research and engineering practice covering a broad range of technologies related to chemistry, physicochemistry, biochemistry, analytical chemistry as well as process modeling and simulation and so on. In order to create an opportunity for international academic exchange in these fields, GCWWT proposed to make its 9th biennial conference as an international conference on chemical technologies for water and wastewater treatment. The proposal gained support from NSFC and JST which are leading foundations in China and Japan for science and technical researches and are mutually supporting China-Japan joint projects on water environment. Many world-famous professors and scholars have happily accepted the organizers' invitation to join the scientific committee and to give keynote lecturers at the conference.
The conference will focus on the latest progress in the theoretical and practical studies of chemical technologies which can be applied to drinking water purification, domestic and industrial wastewater treatment, improvement of sanitary condition and protection of water environment. It will bring together scientists, engineers and professionals from all sectors related to water and wastewater, including government agencies, research institutes, engineering consultants, educational and training institutions, and industries from different countries and regions for a full discussion of many related topics. Fruitful results are expected from the conference which will enrich the knowledge and technologies in the related fields and promote international exchange between Chinese water chemists and the outside world.
The organizers look forward to the attendance of scientists and professionals all over the world.
